All of our offices throughout Northumberland County provide transportation to seniors or adults with disabilities for medical, dialysis and doctor appointments as well as for local shopping, banking and other activities for our client’s daily lives. Our volunteer drivers directly help individuals by supplementing the driving of friends and family or taking on transportation for those without the ability to drive.
Love to Drive?
Do you have a few hours, a reliable vehicle and love to drive?
We have demand for reliable, caring drivers who are willing to transport our clients to these appointments. Imagine if you or a loved one needed a ride and no one was there to assist. You can make a difference.
Volunteers can choose to drive daily, weekly or monthly. If you are concerned about not being able to commit because you go away or have an irregular schedule we will work with your schedules and commitments. It is often said “many hands make light work”, this is true as the larger the pool of transportation volunteers the more requests that can be filled.
We have both local and long distance destination requests, you as the volunteer can choose where you are comfortable driving and how often you are available. If you are concerned about the cost of gas, mileage expenses are provided. For local drives, there is a flat fee and long distance drives are based on .37 cents a kilometre.
The drive is just one part of this volunteer service. Our drivers are often a friendly ear. If a client is worried about a doctor’s appointment or hospital test, they are there to listen and the client doesn’t have to worry alone.
